Learn how to setup a basic email journey

What is great about Journey Builder, is that from one place, you can create and setup both content for your email and create a customer journey for your audience. Now, let’s have a look on how to create a journey with a single email.

Start by going to Journey Builder and selecting “Create New Journey”. You will be asked to select “Multi-Step Journey” or a “Single Send Journey”. Choose the single journey and you will be taken to the Journey Builder canvas. The canvas will be blank and you can now go ahead and build your simple email journey.

First, you will have to add an entry source to get started. This will determine who should enter the journey. Let’s go head and choose “Data extension” and drag-and-drop it onto the canvas. Configure it by simply clicking on the icon. Choose the data extension that you have already prepared before and that matches the audience you want to target.

Next, its time to drag-and-drop the next activity which “Messages”. Drag-and-drop the email icon onto the canvas. Now, click on the icon and you choose “New message”. You will be taken to different layout options for your email. Choose the template you like and define the properties like name and description.

Now it’s time to have fun and design your email. Enter a subject-line and a pre-header of your email. In the top section of the template, you can for example add your logo. You can either upload the logo from your desktop or insert it from your Content Builder if you have uploaded it there. Then move on and add a hero image on top of your email and add a copy to your text blog below. You can add some amp-script to personalize your email. Also, you can add and personalize a CTA button and add Social Media channels in the footer.

When you have saved and exit the editing, you are ready with your journey. Finally, simply launch your journey by clicking “Activate”. Now you have done your first simple email journey!
